World Cup 2022: Croatia beat Japan to claim World Cup quarter-finals

Croatia beat Japan on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals after drawing 1–1 at regular time on Monday.

Daizen Maeda gave Japan the first goal just before half-time by scoring a penalty into his area from a deep free-kick at his stadium. 

Croatia struck back with a superb header from Ivan Perisic in the 55th minute to set up a tense final half hour for him, 

but neither team could find him a winner within 90 minutes or in extra time I could not do it.

Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Kibakovic saved Takumi Minamino, 

Kaoru Mitoma and Maya Yoshida from penalties before Mario Pasalic won the penalty shootout 3-1 to reach 

the quarter-finals against Brazil or South Korea Play against On Monday.

 Japan remained tense throughout the match but fell on penalties. 

Nikola Vlasic and Marcelo Brozovic gave Croatia his 2–1 lead, with Pasalic signing for Croatia.
